At 26 years old, Workforce Australia client, Shannon, was looking to enter the workforce. A young mother, Shannon had spent the last 10 years looking after her children.
With no previous qualifications or work history, she was finding it difficult to find an entry level role that would still be flexible enough to fit around her caring responsibilities.
Shannon was also living with mental health concerns, so her Job Coach, Ashlee, at the Invermay atWork Australia office in Tasmania, connected her to atWork Australia’s Wellness Services.
While she looked after her health and wellbeing, Ashlee looked at updating her resume to include all her transferrable skills from being a mother.
“Shannon’s self-confidence has grown since working with us,” said Ashlee.
“She was feeling a lot of anxiety around starting in paid employment and was supported by atWork Australia’s Wellness Team.”
Shannon had expressed to Ashlee that she wanted a casual role, that would be flexible to her caring needs. She thought Retail, Hospitality or Cleaning might be great options.
Ashlee then supported Shannon to enrol in a Certificate II in Retail.
The atWork Australia team then found a suitable role for Ashlee as a Cleaner. They supported her to purchase some shoes for her new role.
“Securing employment has grown Shannon’s confidence. She is excited to be working in a flexible role that is the right fit for her,” said Ashlee.
The atWork Australia team continues to support Shannon through In-Work Support.
