Five years of unemployment had left Kimiko feeling hopeless about finding work in the hairdressing industry, however she is excited to be working again thanks to her new job.
Despite having years of experience as a qualified hair stylist which includes cutting international singer Robbie Williams’ hair on tour, Kimiko had been struggling to find her feet and was concerned that she would need a career change due to years of unemployment.
She approached atWork Australia’s South Melbourne office and was matched to Disability Employment Services Job Coach Jarod. Together, they looked at different possibilities for her career path including options to study, but it was her passion for hairdressing that cemented the focus in job searching hair dressing positions.
Jarod was able to help Kimiko find an exciting new job at an emerging local business allowing her to stay in the industry, where she looks forward to going to work each day.
Kimiko’s Job Coach said “Kimiko has been an absolute pleasure to work with. Bubbly, intelligent, and we have collaborated every step of the way.”
Even though it was not a smooth transition for Kimiko, her Job Coach Jarod made her feel comfortable and supported her as they worked through her concerns and anxieties together.
“Jarrod was very supportive. It felt like someone was on ‘your side’ and actually cared. It really made a difference,” said Kimiko.
Kimiko was very thankful for Jarod’s help throughout the process and was glad to have a supportive, caring person standing beside her as she forges a new life for herself.
