When Haiden first started working with Job Coach, Joanne, at the atWork Australia Gawler office, they had no work experience.
At 23 years of age, Haiden was shy, and while they had completed a few TAFE courses, they hadn’t yet gained any work experience.
Haiden also lives with mental health conditions and had a fear that they may not be able to hold employment.
“Haiden’s biggest barrier was the fear that came with no experience, and perhaps not being able to maintain employment,” said Joanne.
Haiden was referred to our in-house wellness services for support.
Without any experience Haiden had low self-confidence when it came to job interviews.
As part of Haiden’s activity requirements through Workforce Australia, they participated in retail work experience with Lifeline.
Haiden was excited about this, as retail was one of the key industries they were interested in working in.
The experience showed Haiden they could maintain employment and work a day in retail without any troubles.
It gave them the confidence to showcase their retail skills in a job interview and they landed their first paid retail job.
Over Christmas, Haiden was working good hours, however in the post-holiday season their hours have dropped significantly.
Through work experience, Haiden now knows what they are capable of, and with the support of the atWork Australia team they will update their resume with these new skills and experiences
Together the atWork Australia team and Haiden are working to find a new role with more hours to support their goals.
