atWork Australia client, Leah, said, “Oh my gosh, if it wasn’t for atWork Australia’s support I wouldn’t have been able to find work."

For a parent, there is nothing more heartbreaking than having to witness your child experiencing health challenges.

When Workforce Australia client, Leah, found out her daughter was experiencing health concerns, she dropped everything to focus on being there to support her.

Leah has been out of the workforce for the past two years, after not being able to find a suitable position that provides the flexibility to continue supporting her daughter.

For assistance, Leah connected with atWork Australia’s Workforce Australia team in Invermay, Tasmania, to get professional guidance on her employment journey.

Leah shared that she was beginning to feel as if she would never be able to find a suitable job given her family commitments.

Her Job Coach, Renai, was there for her, providing encouragement, showing compassion for Leah’s situation and tailoring her support to ensure it was flexible and did not add additional pressure.

Despite the challenges Leah was facing, she continued to put her best foot forward and maintained a positive attitude.

Renai assisted her to update her cover letter, arranged funding for work clothes, shoes and fuel vouchers to help relieve some of the financial pressures.

As a result of Leah’s courage, strength, determination and with her Job Coach by her side each step of the way, Leah has recently secured two interviews and was offered both positions.

Although it was a tough decision, Leah decided to accept the role as a Housekeeper and has started her new position.

She has been incredibly grateful for the ongoing support she has received from her Job Coach, Renai, and the broader atWork Australia team.

“Oh my gosh, if it wasn’t for atWork Australia’s support I wouldn’t have been able to find work. I can now help with my daughter’s medical expenses and hospital attendance,” said Leah.

Leah’s journey has not been easy for her, but it’s a credit to her strength and persistence she is now thriving in her new workplace.

“I am so proud of Leah’s persistence and resilience. Even through all her struggles. Leah has maintained a positive, friendly attitude and has not let her circumstances define her or her future goals,” said Job Coach, Renai.
