Jasmine came to atWork Australia in a vulnerable position. She was homeless, living in a tent and desperately trying to return to work to support her family.
This had not always been the case for Jasmine. Previously, she had been working overseas and developing a very successful career. However, Jasmine experienced some challenging circumstances which shifted the direction of her life.
Jasmine’s life had completely flipped upside down. She was now experiencing extreme hardship, which began impacting her confidence, she had self-doubt, and her mental health deteriorated.
While in the process of finding her feet, Jasmine connected with atWork Australia’s Workforce Australia team in Warrawong, NSW, to get support on her employment journey.
When Jasmine first came to atWork Australia, she didn’t think anyone could help her. She thought she had to do it on her own. She got a nice surprise when she found out what support was available. She was introduced to Job Coach, Mika.
Jasmine shared with Mika that she was currently studying IT to develop her skills to return to work. Although, her situation and living arrangements made it difficult to complete her studies and look for work. She relied on the computers at the local library, which restricted the time she could allocate to study.
Jasmine shared these challenges with Mika, and he was able to outline how atWork Australia could support her. Mika suggested that through the employment fund atWork Australia could assist her to purchase a laptop, which would allow her to complete her studies and job searches in her own time.
During their regular appointments, Mika continued supporting Jasmine, providing her with food vouchers and encouraging her to stay focused on completing her studies.
Jasmine has recently visited the office to share some good news with the team, she had successfully secured a position within a University IT department. “Jasmine told me that for the first time in a long time, she is proud of herself. She can finally see a way out of homelessness and can see a shining light of financial freedom,” said Job Coach, Mika.
Jasmine is thrilled to be back at work and being able to provide for her family. Her short-term goal is to buy a travel van so she can sleep comfortably. While long-term she is focused on saving towards purchasing her own property.
“When I first started with atWork Australia, Mika said to me that he could help me and I thought to myself, how? I need to do this myself. But I was wrong,’ said Jasmine.
“Mika helped to get me a laptop and was a great asset in helping me feel confident to find the job I wanted,” said Jasmine.
