After two and a half years unemployed, Disability Employment Services client, James, is preparing to celebrate six months in employment.
When James first connected with the atWork Australia team in Ballina, NSW, he was in desperate need for support. He was a much different man to the one he is today. He would walk into the office with his head down, shoulders slumped with no aspirations for his future. Now, he attends his appointments with a smile from ear to ear and is forever grateful for the support he received from atWork Australia.
When James connected with his In-Work Support Coach, Andrew, he was managing multiple health concerns, including anxiety, depression, low self-esteem, and he had an alcohol dependency.
It was clear to Andrew that James needed help. As a starting point, Andrew referred James to Lives Lived Well, a local counselling service, to get professional support to manage his mental health concerns, as well as referring him to a local alcohol rehabilitation program.
James was beginning to make positive changes in his life and feeling much better for it. With his improved health, James was building his confidence in his ability to return to work. atWork Australia provided funding for three months of James’ car registration, so he could effectively complete his job searches and follow up with potential employers.
James and Andrew worked together to update his resume, contacting employers, and following up on opportunities. Most importantly, Andrew listened to James, and they pursued opportunities that he was interested in.
Due to the combined effort, James was successful in securing a position to be a Crew Member with a local manufacturing company.
Since starting employment James has transformed into a new person. He is happy and attends all appointments with a big smile on his face. James is forever grateful for the support he received from atWork Australia, especially from his In-Work Support Coach, Andrew.
