Disability Employment Services client, 26-year-old, Daniel, had never held paid employment before. Without any work experience, he hadn’t yet found an employer willing to give him a go.
Many times, Daniel would apply for work, and not hear anything back at all. This really impacted his confidence.
Daniel also lived with physical disabilities which he also had to consider when applying for roles, however he was willing to give anything a go.
For his Job Coach, Chellsea, at the Hamilton Hill office in Western Australia, it was about encouraging and supporting Daniel to never give up. Chellsea assured Daniel he would find an employer willing to give him a go.
In the meantime, they worked on Daniel’s interview skills, practicing questions to help him sell his strengths and improve his confidence.
When an employer reached out to atWork Australia looking to fill some warehousing roles, the team thought of Daniel.
They supported him to gain his forklift ticket, a requirement for the role and advocated on his behalf.
He was successful in the interview and landed his first job as a pick packer in a warehouse. He was connected to In-Work Support Coach, Rebekah, to continue to support him during this first role.
Daniel was really enjoying the role and the position however his employer couldn’t provide Daniel with enough hours.
However, by having this experience under his belt, he was able to apply for a similar role with another employer.
“Daniel is thriving and has grown very much as a person, he is always willing to give it a go and his perseverance has led him to where he is now,” said Rebekah.
“His new employer said that Daniel is improving in his role every day and that he is a valued member of the team.”
