Wei stands in front of a picture in his overalls. Quote reads "I really like my job now. Thank you very much for your help and support when I was out of work" said Wei

Workforce Australia client, Wei, had been out of work for two years when he started working with Job Coach, Alex, at the Auburn, NSW, office.

English is Wei’s second language with Mandarin being his first language. With this language barrier, medical conditions, and a gap in his employment, he was looking for extra support to find work.

“Our goal with Wei was to build up his employability through developing new skills, while helping him to reach his personal goals,” said Alex.

“He also needed to boost his confidence after all this time job searching.”

Alex spoke to Wei about the current job market in the area, the types of industries and what type of work he would be interested in.

From there they made a tailored plan with small achievable steps designed to boost his confidence and skills.

He was supported to enroll in a first aid course, and financially supported to purchase clothing for interviews.

Then they worked on upgrading his resume and Alex taught Wei skills on job hunting and finding jobs he might be interested in.

After a while Alex understood which types of industries and roles interested Wei and invited him to participate in a First Steps to Success event.

This event brings together employers and clients in the one space, providing clients a space to practice speaking with employers, and employers can meet work ready candidates.

With Wei’s confidence higher, the atWork Australia team reached out to their network of employers and advocated on Wei’s behalf, offering a wage subsidy to support his employment.

Soon he landed an interview as a picture framer. The atWork Australia team financially supported him with transport to attend the interview and he successfully landed the role.

“Wei said he felt supported with atWork Australia by his side during his job-hunting journey,” said Alex.

Every year, atWork Australia help thousands of clients like Wei expand their skills and qualifications to help them gain the right job with the right employer. Call us today on 1300 080 856 or enquire online to find out how we can help you meet your career goals.
