At 23 years old, Workforce Australia client, Serena, was interested in pursuing careers in multiple industries. She is passionate about education and working with youth, while at the same time, she has a long-term dream to work in medical administration.
Serena holds a Certificate III in School Based Education Support. However, over the past 12 months, she was finding it challenging to secure employment and could not progress passed the interview stage.
Serena acknowledged that she needed to adjust her approach and connected with atWork Australia’s Workforce Australia team in Wanneroo, WA.
When Serena connected with her Job Coach, Michelle, she shared that the process, and limited success with her applications, was getting her down. Michelle encouraged her to keep her head up high and explained that it can be a difficult process. However, she should be proud of herself for not giving up and having the courage to reach out for support. Michele reassured Serena that she would now be supported on this journey and together they would fine tune their approach to finding employment.
To begin, Michelle supported Serena to obtain her Working with Children Check and a Police Clearence. Additionally, atWork Australia provided funding for Serena to purchase new interview clothing, so she was prepared to put her best foot forward when the next opportunity arose.
With Michelle by her side providing encouragement and support, Serena continued applying for positions within the education space, and began securing casual employment opportunities.
These new opportunities have boosted Serena’s confidence and she is feeling excited about her future.
To continue supporting Serena and to open more avenues to employment, Michelle suggested that atWork Australia could support her to complete a Certificate III in Business (Medical Administration), this would allow Serena to pro-actively work towards both of her career aspirations. Serena was excited and quickly jumped at the opportunity to gain further qualifications.
“From the first day Serena walked through our doors, I could see she was eager to find work. She was always enthusiastic and willing to take advice,” said Job Coach, Michelle.
Serena continues to take positive steps on her employment journey, she is enjoying her work within the education industry and is feeling confident in her ability to achieve her career aspirations.
“Thank you, Michelle, for being such an encouraging and supportive figure in my work journey. It has been a massive relief and blessing to have the help of someone who genuinely cares and wants to see me succeed,” said Serena.
