PERTH – The winners of the inaugural atWork Australia 2020 WA DES Employer Awards were announced on Wednesday, 25 November at the magnificent The Quay Perth Hotel overlooking Elizabeth Quay in Perth.
The event was attended by 100 employer representatives from a broad range of industry sectors. The awards are an opportunity for atWork Australia to acknowledge and give thanks to the valued employers whom they partner; together committed to providing employment opportunities to people living with disability, injury or health condition throughout Western Australia.
Shaun Pianta, atWork Australia’s DES Ambassador hosted the event, welcoming special guests including proud Noongar Yamatji woman Sharon Wood-Kenney who officially commenced the proceedings by performing an inspirational Welcome to Country.
Guests were also privileged to hear from guest speaker, Jack Dunn, an atWork Australia DES client who has successfully gained employment amidst the COVID-19 pandemic. Jack shared his inspirational story talking about his acquired disability and journey to lasting employment.
“Remember we may not understand or see someone’s disability but by enabling them to have the same chances as every able body person, will truly make the difference to their self-confidence and drive them to pursue their goals despite their limitations,” said Jack.
atWork Australia’s National Operations Manager, Hugh Reilly said a key to atWork Australia’s Disability Employment Services ongoing success is the strong relationships with employer partners.
“Over the past 12 months we have placed more than 1,000 people living with disability into work. That’s more than 1,000 Australians who may otherwise still be unemployed.
“Finding the right fit for employers and clients is critical to achieving lasting success in employment; this right fit transforms the lives of our clients and businesses. Our clients become highly productive, valued employees who not only make a positive contribution to the workplace but society as a whole,” he said.
