Workforce Australia client, Shane, found himself unemployed during the pandemic. His background was mainly in film and television, but he was looking to change careers. His goal was to find stable employment with consistent hours.
Shane wanted to do something physical, he had trialed working as a concrete labourer but wasn’t sure it was the best fit due to some back pain.
He shared all of this with his Job Coach, Michelle, at the Wanneroo office in Western Australia.
Knowing the in-demand industries in the region, and the types of work that would result in regular hours, Michelle suggested Shane complete a traffic management course.
While Shane was completing this course, atWork Australia supported him with food and fuel vouchers. As well as helping him purchase a two-way radio and personal protective equipment, so he was ready to start work.
Shane quickly landed work in Traffic Control. However, shifts unexpectedly started to slow down.
As Shane was still being supported by atWork Australia he asked to complete his Forklift Licence in the hope he could find alternative employment.
Michelle helped him to complete his Forklift Licence and as luck would have it, atWork Australia was hosting an employer information session with a local factory.
Shane said he would like to come along to find out more about the opportunities available and was interviewed right after the program.
Shane excelled in his interview and landed the role as a factory hand and is now working full time.
“Shane’s new employer has expressed to us how well he is doing in his new role. They told us he is now one of their best workers,” said Michelle.
“This role is a great fit for Shane. Not only is it close to his home, it offers regular, stable, full-time hours which was his goal.”
