After 25 years in administration, Wendy had to cease work in 2013 after being diagnosed with breast cancer. Following many years of battling the disease, as well as a spinal disorder and osteoporosis, Wendy was determined to make the most of her remission but lacked confidence. She was unsure anybody would still want to employ her at 62 years of age.
Wendy registered with atWork Australia in our Ballarat office in February 2019 and met with her Disability Employment Services Job Coach, Daniel. After hearing Wendy’s story, Daniel knew what she could offer a business given her wealth of employment experience. Daniel touched base with some key employers in the Ballarat region that he had previously dealt with in employment services.
Daniel spoke with the Director of Life Connect Disability Services, Tony. Life Connect Disability Services is a large NDIS provider in this region and due to the growth of the business, Tony required an administration officer for 2 days a week.
Wendy conducted an interview for the role and did extremely well in the interview process that she was offered the position. Wendy is now into her second month of employment and loving her new position with Life Connect. “We were delighted to give Wendy this job opportunity,” said Tony.
Wendy may have been unsure in the beginning of her potential moving forward but with true grit and determination, she was able to gain meaningful employment and transformed her outlook on life.
“I thought my working life may have been over but thanks to my Job Coach Daniel and my employer Tony from Life Connect Disability Services, I get an opportunity to re-enter the workforce, I am so grateful,” said Wendy.
