From Morayfield, Queensland, Disability Employment Services client, Wayne, had been out of the workforce for over two years due to his medical conditions.
Wayne lives with some physical limitations, as well as anxiety and depression, that have restricted the type of work he could participate in.
Wayne reached out to the atWork Australia team in Caboolture for support and was connected with local Job Coach, Kyla.
When Kyla first met Wayne, she observed that he didn’t feel confident, and at 58-years-old, Wayne didn’t believe he could re-enter the workforce.
Through regular contact with Kyla, Wayne started to recognise the skills he had, and Kyla began to help him prepare job applications, while also working on his interview skills.
Through one-on-one support, Kyla was able to get Wayne into a more positive mindset where he was able to apply for jobs and attend interviews on his own.
Wayne felt confident to attend a First Steps to Success event, giving him the opportunity to speak directly with employers. Wayne started to really believe he could start work and sustain employment.
Within no time, Wayne had an interview with Meals on Wheels and was successful in landing a job as a Kitchen Hand, working part-time.
Wayne told Kyla that he feels relieved to be working again and feeling more confident that this will be sustainable employment. He also mentioned that his family is happy he is working again and back doing something he loves.
To Wayne, having a great Job Coach that he can call if he needs assistance with his employment has been the best.\
