Vivienne (65), lives with depression and anxiety. During the COVID-19 lockdown, she was going through a very difficult phase.
Vivienne connected with atWork Australia in Smithfield, Cairns, where she met Job Coach Melissa. Melissa supported Vivienne with vocational coaching sessions, to encourage Vivienne to reach out to her work supervisors and request better working conditions and employment hours.
Job Coach Melissa supported Vivienne during this process so she could cope better and move forward positively in her employment journey.
Vivienne says: “I am grateful for how my Job Coach, Melissa, went above and beyond my expectations. Melissa worked with me to strengthen my relationship with my employer. I am granted additional working hours and my financial situation has improved. I also express my gratitude for the financial support I received.”
Job Coach Melissa also provided some financial support to Vivienne through the atWork Australia essentials vouchers. Vivienne was provided Woolworths vouchers to assist with purchasing fuel and food, for when Vivienne was on her employment break. atWork Australia financially assisted Vivienne with her vehicle repairs to ensure she can safely travel to work. Melissa also assisted Vivienne with her transport expenses to ensure she has transport, once the lockdown was lifted.
Job Coach Melissa is in frequent contact with Vivienne.
Melissa says: “I empower and coach Vivienne with decision making, negotiating current contracts and support her with her mental health. Vivienne has developed and displayed confidence when experiencing difficult situations.
“I felt like I was going crazy if not for Melissa. Melissa was my God Fairy and she helped me move on.”
