In a short amount of time, with the support of atWork Australia’s Workforce Australia team, Vanessa has regained her self-belief and motivation to secure employment.
When Vanessa first came to atWork Australia’s Mount Druitt office, she had limited skills, qualifications, and education. Due to these barriers, Vanessa had been finding it difficult to secure employment. To make a difficult situation more challenging, Vanessa does not have a driver’s licence, which was limiting her employment opportunities.
When Vanessa was introduced to her Job Coach, Sara, she explained that because of her barriers and limited employment history, she had low self-belief in her ability to secure employment. Sara acknowledged her concerns and reassured her its never to late to learn new skills or gain new qualifications. Most importantly, Sara reminded her that she now had a team of people in her corner who would support her throughout her employment journey.
To begin, Sara met with Vanessa on a regular basis, focusing on building her motivation and confidence towards finding employment. Sara explained to Vanessa the various activities and methods for how she could meet her monthly requirements. With the regular engagement, Vanessa’s self-belief was beginning to improve.
Vanessa was now getting excited about the idea of returning to work. To create more employment opportunities, Sara supported Vanessa to complete her Responsible Serving of Alcohol (RSA) and Responsible Conduct of Gambling (RCG) tickets.
Now Vanessa had completed her new tickets, Sara updated her resume and together they began applying for a variety of positions. To help Vanessa overcome her transport barrier, atWork Australia have regularly topped up her Opal card, which has helped Vanessa get to her appointments and future interviews.
Soon, Vanessa had secured an interview. In preparation, Sara continued working with Vanessa to build her confidence in answering general interview questions. Vanessa was absolutely delighted when she received the good news, she had successfully secured a position as a Retail Assistant. In preparation to start work, atWork Australia provided funding for Vanessa to purchase new work clothes, so she could turn up on her first day feeling confident and ready to work.
In the short period Vanessa was with atWork Australia she has made tremendous progress, improved her self-belief and she is now happily employed. Vanessa’s Job Coach, Sara, said, “It is great to see Vanessa so happy in her new job. She was very grateful for the support she received from atWork Australia.”
