Grant has had some tough times of late, but at 36, he is learning to manage his mental health barriers and had re-educated himself with new skills to advance his career in warehousing.
Hailing from Woodbine, south-west of Sydney, Grant had been looking for work for some time, but felt he needed further support to find the right job for him.
Grant had previous experience working as a store person, picking and packing and felt this was the area he would like to stay in.
Although he had applied for many jobs, Grant had been unable to find sustainable work, particularly during the pandemic when each position had multitudes of applicants.
He decided to approach the Campbelltown office of atWork Australia, and it was here he met Job Coach, Jessica, who could see he was very willing to find work.
“Grant felt he was job ready, but he needed a service provider to help him get his foot in the door and help kick start his employment journey,” Jessica says.
atWork Australia Job Coaches are very experienced in supporting people back into their careers and Jessica suggested to Grant that he upskill to add to his value to his résumé.
Grant agreed and enrolled in courses to obtain an EWP licence and a forklift licence. This would give him additional skills to add to his previous experience in warehousing.
Then, together with Jessica, he set to work on creating a great new résumé which included his new credentials and they practised mock interview questions to ensure Grant was comfortable with the application process.
atWork Australia also provided Grant with appropriate workwear and supplied petrol vouchers to enable him to attend interviews.
The new skills Grant obtained were of great benefit and he quickly landed work with a local organisation who provide merchandising equipment and materials to local shopping centres Sydney.
Jessica says, “Grant is a great client who has now found suitable on-going work in his desired industry. Grant now has confidence within himself and feels his new role is going to be long-term for him.”
