atWork Australia client Tracey is a heart attack survivor who had always lived a busy life prior to this. Being a driven person meant that she was not wanting to slow down but rather, get back into the workforce as a Cleaner. However, she was understandably wary of working too much in light of her heart health concerns, which contributed to a decline in her mental health. This is why she connected with atWork Australia Wanneroo (WA).
Tracey’s Job Coach, Debbie, quickly realised that Tracey required some additional support and upskilling; Tracey was more than happy to commit to. She enrolled into Positivum™, atWork Australia’s health and wellbeing training program, as well as Jobs Now, where she learnt ways to build on her resume, cover letter and interview techniques.
After eight weeks, when the programs had reached their conclusion, Debbie was better placed to contact employers on Tracey’s behalf with a view to finding an organisation that would be understanding of her health, and would not be concerned about her age, or her limited experience with computers.
Debbie found a suitable role by making contact with the historic Yanchep Inn, which is located in Yanchep National Park. They offered her low impact cleaning and maintenance work that would not exacerbate her health concerns.
The tailored working arrangements that were agreed upon by her employer gave Tracey the opportunity to shine in her role and also learn about the history of her region.
In addition, the ongoing assistance that she received through Post Placement Support and encouragement, has increased her chances of sustaining the employment.
Tracey said, “I get to work in an environment where I am able to be a part of nature as well as the history of the inn. Most of all, I love the team environment that I get to be a part of, who support me in my day to day job.”
Tracey only had good things to say about the atWork Australia staff who helped her. She continued, “the staff at atWork Australia Wanneroo, especially Debbie, are wonderful. Debbie helped me get a job and has always been there for me. I could not ask for a better Job Coach than Debbie. She is patient and helps me with my computer all the time.”
Job Coach Debbie’s response was equally as complimentary, she remarked, “It’s been an absolute pleasure working with Tracey and I feel blessed to have supported her back into the workforce. I will continue to support Tracey and I’m only a phone call away.”
