After relocating from New Zealand to Australia, First Nations client, Troy connected with atWork Australia seeking consistent full-time work.
Aside from some temporary positions, Troy has spent the past 10 years out of the workforce. He was looking for employment that was permanent, but most importantly something he enjoyed.
Troy met his Job Coach, Paul, in atWork Australia’s Midland office. The pair got to know each other, and Troy got to know atWork Australia, and the services on offer as a Workforc Australia client.
“I got to know Troy, his interests, skills and previous work history, both in Australia, and New Zealand,” said Paul.
“Troy shared his keen interest and love for the outdoors. I immediately recognised that this would be a great potential work pathway for him.”
With Employer Engagement Consultant, Jess in the office at the time, Paul took the opportunity to introduce Jess to Troy.
Based on the current opportunities she was aware of, and hearing his interests in working outdoors, Jess asked a few more questions.
With no direct transferrable skills within the landscaping industry, Troy was booked into a Weed Spraying Chemuser certification.
He was also enrolled within atWork Australia’s Jobs for the Mob program to receive culturally specific support on his employment journey.
In anticipation of Troy completing his certification, Jess was connecting with a range of employers for job opportunities.
At the same time, Paul purchased all the personal protective equipment Troy needed for future opportunities. This included clothing, and steel capped boots. This ensured that he would be ready to go, when the perfect opportunity arose.
Soon after the completion of the course, an interview was secured, and with his interview techniques down pat after practice with Paul, Troy was ecstatic to land the position.
“After being out of work for over 10 years, atWork Australia provided training and education, so that I could re-enter the workforce and start a career that I wanted and didn’t think was possible.” – Troy, Workforce Australia client.
His employer is just as ecstatic to have him on the team. His Operational Manager stating – “Troy has become a huge asset to our team, he has been promoted to team leader, credit to his hard work and dedication.”
