Why employ people with disability?

In Australia, over 4 million people have some form of disability. That’s 1 in 5 people. 2.1 million are of working age and they make great employees.

We talked to Australian employers about their experience employing people with disability, injury or health condition.

Ricky. Owner. Digital Factor Printing. “I would recommend other businesses to employ people with disabilities because there’s no real reason not to.”

“I mean there’s nothing that’s stopping them from doing the job so why would that be a problem?”

Stacey. Director. Goddess Cleaning Group. “Hiring an individual with a disability I have found has been very refreshing in that we have candidates who come to us who are work ready, they are very dedicated and they absolutely keen to work so there isn’t an issue with regards to reliability, so I would recommend it to any organisation.”

Elie. Owner. Town and Country Real Estate. “One of the most important thing which draw me to accept her offer is that she’s positive. She’s positive and she’s willing, she’s willing and she understands that there was a big task on her shoulder and she’s willing and trying, and she always gives her best.”

Ilkin. Director. Works 4 You. “The fact that he was able to come for an interview within a notice period of two hours and be ready and committed to start the following day said to me that he was keen and eager. The fact that he had experience is obviously important as well but to me what’s actually equally important, and probably more important, is those other bits. The fact that they can be loyal they are going to come to work.”

Ricky. Owner. Digital Factor Printing. “It’s a good positive feeling, I’m here to run a business but certainly if you can make someone’s life better and help them out and that’s that’s the bonus.”

98% of people with disability have average or superior safety records than other workers. 90% of people with disability are as productive or more productive than other workers. 86% have average or superior attendance than other workers.
