Workforce Australia client, Anna, was in the process of settling into her new community in Port Kembla, NSW. She was excited to be living in a new town. However, as she was new to the area, she was finding it difficult when looking for employment. To secure new employment, Anna connected with atWork Australia’s Warrawong team to get tailored support on her employment journey.
When Anna met her Job Coach, Anita, she openly spoke about her employment history, advising she had many years’ experience in the cleaning industry and has spent many years as a principal carer for a loved one.
Anna had the abilities, experience and could add value in the workplace but was having difficulty securing an opportunity.
Since Anna had cleaning experience and was willing to return to the industry the pair focused their searches on suitable cleaning positions. Anita connected with the broader atWork Australia team, trying to identify vacancies that would suit Anna.
As they began to identify suitable positions, Anna and Anita worked closely to tailor Anna’s resume for each application to increase her chances of being successful.
In the meantime, Anna attended the Career Training Assistance program, which helped develop her employability skills and built her confidence in returning to the workplace.
Soon enough, Anna secured an interview and was incredibly excited about the opportunity to return to work. Anita supported Anna to prepare for the interview, boosting her confidence and providing advice on how to structure responses to interview questions. After the interview, Anita followed up with Anna to discuss the interview and provided feedback for how to improve next time. However, Anna’s search for employment was over, she had successfully secured the cleaning position.
Less than a month after joining atWork Australia, Anna was delighted to be returning to a full-time cleaning position. Anna said, “The team at atWork Australia have been great and supportive. They have helped make my move to the area much more comfortable.”
