Disability Employment Services client, Tamar, wanted to return to the workforce. However, her unique circumstances and a competitive job market meant she needed her own personal job finding team behind her.
Tamar was feeling frustrated, and her confidence had dropped after completing many online job applications and hearing nothing back.
She connected with Ludy from atWork Australia, in Bonnyrigg, for assistance to find employment.
Tamar lives with a disability, and she also has caring responsibilities for her parents. She needed part time work, light duties and work outside of the regular 9 to 5.
“Tamar was applying for work, sometimes more than four online applications a day, and wasn’t hearing anything back,’ said In-Work Support Coach, Ludy.
“Her goal was to find employment and still be able to care for her family.”
Being at home so often, Tamar was eager to find work, to connect with new people.
Ludy supported Tamar to update her resume to stand out, and kept her positive and motivated each time she didn’t hear back about a job.
Ludy also worked with the local employer engagement team to contact employers on Tamar’s behalf.
“The emotional support, and guidance in solving the challenges she faced in re-entering the workforce helped Tamar to remain motivated,” said Ludy.
Ludy focused on finding Tamar a role that would give her the opportunity to feel engaged and productive. Ludy soon secured an interview for her as a general shop hand.
The atWork Australia team negotiated with the employer for later afternoon shifts, which suited her caring responsibilities.
Tamar was then supported with interview preparation, and she successfully landed the job.
She continued to be supported by the atWork Australia team as she started her new job. The team checked in regularly to see how she was managing the work, her health and her family commitments.
This support came in handy, as there was a change in management at the shop which led to a miscommunication about the agreed hours Tamar could work.
With the support of atWork Australia she was able to maintain the employment and continues to enjoy working.
“I am very happy to be back at work and to connect with people outside my circle,” said Tamar.
“This has really boosted my confidence and made me feel more positive about life.”
“It feels great to be employed again. I’m excited for the future,” said Tamar.
