After recently being transferred from another provider, Workforce Australia client, Stretch (18), entered the atWork Australia office in Port Pirie, South Australia, looking to land his first ever job.
Stretch is a culturally and linguistically diverse client, speaking both Filipino and English. This was brought up in his initial appointment with Job Coach, Steven.
In this same appointment, Stretch explained his previous experience and how he felt as though he was put in the ‘too hard basket’.
Stretch was optimistic that he would receive a better outcome with Steven after getting to know him and the tailored support that he would be able to provide.
As a first port of call, a job plan was developed to ensure that he was tracking towards employment and meeting his PBAS targets through working on his skills to transition into work.
“As a result of having no employment history, he was keen and willing to give anything a go. He attended every appointment with a keen attitude,” said Steven.
To broaden his job search, Stretch was enrolled in the ‘Fit for Work’ program to ensure that he would be able to pass a physical check if needed. This course not only assisted in his confidence, but also was a key reason for quitting recreational drugs.
Whilst the job hunt continued, Steven ran Stretch through a variety of mock interviews to ensure that he was both confident and comfortable. In just a few short weeks, Stretch was able to showcase these skills in two interviews with potential employers.
His dedication, attendance and hard work paid off, soon he was offered a full-time position. When hearing the good news, Steven states “Stretch literally jumped with excitement and could not thank me enough”.
Stretch is ecstatic. He can not wait to start his new job and enter the workforce for the very first time.
“Cannot wait to start work. I am a bit nervous because I have never worked before, but I am excited. Thanks for getting me this opportunity!” – Stretch, atWork Australia Client.
Not only is he excited to start work, but the employer is eager to have him on board too. They state, “Stretch was very charming when he came into his interview. He was very nervous, but he did so well and was so respectful and grateful for the opportunity. We look forward to him joining the team.”
