atWork Australia Sunbury assists Disability Employment Services client, Darren, to finding sustainable employment for the second time.
58-year-old, Darren, originally entered the Sunbury, Victoria, office in 2021 and was successful in gaining and maintaining a catering position. He loved this position and worked there until February 2023, where he found himself out of employment. For assistance on his employment journey once again, he reached back out to Job Coach, Vilda, for support.
In order to take the next step on his journey, Vilda and Darren sat down and reassessed Darren’s goals, skills and interests. This allowed them to both update his job plan, and his resume, to reflect any changes that have occurred over the past several years.
Based on this information, and with his mental health in mind, the pair began job searching. In their searches, they found a part-time school crossing attendant position. Darren presented a keen interest in this position, so he applied.
After a successful interview, Darren was delighted to share with Vilda that he was offered the position.
As a part of the onboarding process, Darren was required to complete a Working with Children and Police Check. atWork Australia was able to financially support him in gaining these.
Fast forward to December of 2023, and Darren still loves the position as much as he did on his first day. Since March, he has worked with In-Work Support Coach, Jakleen, to ensure that he is thriving.
“I can’t ask for a better service. Vilda and Jakleen have both been wonderful”. – Darren, Disability Employment Services client
