Luke first came to the atWork Australia Yarram office in October 2021 after relocating to Port Albert for family support. He was keen to find employment and was very active in his search but found he needed extra support.
After completing some work experience Luke was more interested than ever to find work, when his Job Coach Terry organised an interview for Luke at a fiberglass factory.
Together Terry and Luke practiced interview preparation techniques and purchased Luke a set of interview clothes so he could do his best at the interview. Terry even drove Luke to his interview so that he could attend.
“Luke presented so well at his interview and was excited when he was successful in obtaining the position. The first thing he wanted to do was find accommodation in Yarram to be self-sufficient and close to his new role,” said Terry.
Terry organised some personal protective equipment for Luke to start his new role, while Luke moved into his unit ready to commence employment.
“Luke calls me a few times a week to update me on his employment and work hours and has continued to request appointments with us. I am so glad to be able to keep in touch and support Luke to stay in his role as it has meant so much to him to be able to support himself in his own unit,” said Terry.
“He has come a long way in his independence and confidence.”
