“I am loving my role and can see myself doing this until I retire,” says Workforce Australia client, Darren, after landing his new role as a CNC Machinist.
A ‘young Darren’ had completed a fitter machinist trade, but he then became a father and needed to look for a higher paying role to support his family. Little did he know at the time he would use those skills in the future.
Prior to entering the atWork Australia office in St Mary’s, New South Wales, the 58-year-old had a long career working in warehousing, but he was looking for something different. This was something he discussed with his Job Coach, Christine, in their first appointment together.
In order to upskill and prepare to enter the workforce after a year of unemployment, Darren completed a range of activities and courses.
“Darren completed the Jobs for the Mob program and a Certificate II in Workplace Skills, but it was the Launch into Work Project that really made a big impact to him,” said his Job Coach, Christine.
The combination of the three courses was proven to be a winner, when shortly after he was offered a full-time position with a local employer as a CNC Machinist.
“Darren’s employer said they were excited to have him on the team, as his previous experience and current qualifications would enable him to have many opportunities within their business,” said Christine.
“Through collaboration with local business, government and training organisations, atWork Australia was able to support Darren into meaningful work.”
