At 61 years-old, Max* was motivated to return to work. However, after nearly a year of unemployment and many unsuccessful applications, he was beginning to believe his age was why he had been unsuccessful in his job search. As his period of unemployment grew longer, he started experiencing financial instability, which increased his desire to return to work.
When Max connected with his Job Coach, Ryleigh, at the atWork Australia Workforce Australia office in Shellharbour, he was excited to kick start his employment journey. Max was willing to give anything a go, he just wanted to return to work.
As a starting point, Ryleigh encouraged Max to consider updating his skills and qualifications. He was excited about gaining new skills.
Ryleigh referred Max to atWork Australia’s internal program, MoneyMinded. This program helps participants to learn the fundamental skills of managing their personal finances. Additionally, atWork Australia supported Max to obtain his White Card, Traffic Management tickets and supported him to enroll in a Certificate III in Hospitality.
While Max was completing his studies, Ryleigh was able to tailor his Points Based Activation System so that his study would count towards achieving his monthly requirements.
Since Max had put the effort in to gaining new skills, he was more eager than ever to find suitable employment. Ryleigh enlisted the support of atWork Australia’s Employer Engagement Team, who began searching for suitable vacancies within their network of employer partners.
With the broader atWork Australia team now on the hunt, it was not long until Max secured a new position. Max was delighted that the team came through for him, and has recently started a new position as a Cleaner and Trolly Collector.
Max’s Job Coach, Ryleigh, said, “Max engaged with our services from the minute he walked through our door. We have built a strong relationship which has helped in his transition to employment.”
Max is enjoying this new chapter in his life and is grateful for the support he has received from the team at atWork Australia.
