Sodexo and atWork Australia have a long-standing relationship starting in Western Australia, and now nationally.
Since it began, this partnership has produced incredible outcomes, and more importantly, has already changed the lives of 175 atWork Australia clients, including First Nations clients.
Sodexo operate in the fly-in, fly-out utilities industry, which provides a variety of opportunities for atWork Australia clients.
atWork Australia’s Employer Partnerships Manager, Jess, has developed a strong relationship with Sodexo’s National Indigenous Talent Acquisition Coordinator, Kandy, which has helped the team develop a better understanding of how they can support Sodexo’s recruitment needs.
By understanding their business, it helps atWork Australia to identify suitable candidates for their vacancies. Kandy said, “Partnering with atWork Australia has meant our candidates have received extra support during the recruitment process and once they have started work. It’s great that we can work together towards our common goal of helping people into sustainable employment.”
Sodexo regularly attends atWork Australia’s First Steps to Success and Industry Preparation for Employment Program (IPEP) events. Both provide opportunities to engage with candidates who are ready and willing to work.
At a recent IPEP, Sodexo successfully recruited seven new team members, all First Nations people, and they’re currently going through the process to commence work in the fly-in, fly-out space. Kandy continued, “We are so excited to see how excited our new team members are to progress into sustainable employment.”
These opportunities are great for atWork Australia clients to build their careers in a thriving industry. However, they also come with additional challenges. One of Sodexo’s new starters did not feel comfortable traveling on a plane. Sodexo were able to connect their new employee with an indigenous mentor, who would be available to support the new team member until they have built their confidence within their new environment.
