Workforce Australia client, Lorna, came to atWork Australia’s Quakers Hill office with existing employment. However, she needed to find a new position that was better suited to her personal circumstances.
Lorna is an Indigenous woman and mother to a six-year-old son. She came to atWork Australia as she was determined to find alternative employment. In her current role she was working night shift, which meant she couldn’t be there to support her son. She was facing financial hardship, managing significant family issues and was on the verge of being homeless.
When Lorna met her Job Coach, Manmeet, she openly spoke about her personal circumstances. She shared that her confidence and motivation were low. However, she knew she had to make a change for her son and to achieve her long-term goal of moving to the Central Coast.
As a starting point, Manmeet was able to utilise the employment fund to refer Lorna to a local job program, Real Futures. This would provide Lorna an opportunity to develop her employability skills and feel more confident to re-enter the workplace. Throughout the program, every few days Manmeet would check in with Lorna to see if she needed any additional support.
Additionally, Manmeet referred Lorna to atWork Australia’s internal Wellness Services, where she could get support from a professional Wellness Advisor who could assist her in managing her personal circumstances.
After completing the Real Futures program and consistently working with her Wellness Advisor, Lorna has a newfound confidence and improved motivation to secure employment.
Lorna has recently been rewarded with a new job offer. Before commencing her new role, atWork Australia provided funding for her to complete the required training and purchase a new phone that was necessary for the position.
Lorna was absolutely delighted to secure her new position as a Security Guard.
Since starting her new job, Lorna’s confidence continues to grow and she has a great work-life balance which allows her to spend more time with her son.
And, the icing on the cake is, she is able to move to the Central Coast and maintain her employment with the same employer.
“atWork Australia has helped me increase my confidence, regain motivation and achieve my long-term goal of moving to the Central Coast,” said Lorna.
