Good News from Armadale. Quote reads “Erin is so helpful. From empowering myself as a person, to courses, resources, clothing and most of all emotional support. Taking time to hear my personal situation and helping me build pathways towards a career at a pace I can manage.” said client Melinda

ParentsNext client, Melinda, is a single mother who has been supported by the atWork Australia Armadale team for the past five years.

Her youngest child was living with a health condition, and Melinda was unsure of her future career direction knowing she would need additional ongoing flexibility to care for her child.

The type of work Melinda was doing before she became a parent was no longer going to be a suitable option, so Melinda’s Job Coach, Erin, started working with Melinda to identify some new goals they could begin to work towards.

Erin suggested Melinda complete the ‘Best Version of Me’ program, to help her identify some small goals they could start with.

While she completed the program, the atWork Australia team encouraged and motivated Melinda.

Through the process of the program not only did Melinda identify some small goals but she also decided her initial long-term goals was to become an educator.

“During ‘Best Version of Me’, Melinda gained an updated resume as well as the confidence and motivation to begin to look forward to gaining employment in the future,” said Erin.

During her appointments, Erin and Melinda discussed qualifications she could start working on to support her long-term employment goal.

They agreed a qualification would increase her chances of employment. So they then looked at a different range of courses that would fit in with Melinda’s current caring responsibilities.

The atWork Australia team supported her to enroll in a Certificate III in School Based Education at her local TAFE.

“Since commencing study Melinda has become more confident and motivated to her long-term goal of employment as an Educator,” said Erin.

“Melinda can now see it is possible for her to juggle parenting and working. She looks forward to the employment opportunities once her study is completed.”

“Erin is so helpful. From empowering myself as a person, to courses, resources, clothing and most of all emotional support. Taking time to hear my personal situation and helping me build pathways towards a career at a pace I can manage.” – Melinda, ParentsNext Client.
