In just four weeks, Workforce Australia client, Shenai, went from unemployed to thriving in her dream position.
Shenai is a young First Nations woman and has held various positions in administration, warehousing and logistics.
Shenai is a primary carer, which was her main priority when looking for work. It was a non-negotiable for Shenai that she required a position that would provide her the flexibility to be there for her children.
When Shenai connected with atWork Australia, she was being supported by Job Coach, Paul, in Midland, WA. She was also introduced to atWork Australia’s Partnership’s Manager, Jess.
Jess took the time to sit down and listen to Shenai, developing an understanding of what type of job she required and what would suit her lifestyle. Shenai shared her previous experience and said she would prefer a hands-on outdoor role; she didn’t want to be stuck at a desk.
Jess thought she might have the perfect opportunity for Shenai. Jess works with a large network of employers, helping them find their next superstar employees. So, Jess reached out to the recruitment team at a national retail hardware store and provided them with Shenai’s resume, advising she was interested in applying for a position and outlined why she would be a good match for their business.
Shenai was blown away by the pro-active approach from the team, she was even more impressed when the manager invited her for an interview.
With the atWork Australia team by her side, Shenai put the effort in to prepare for the interview and successfully secured the position. atWork Australia then provided funding to purchase Personal Protective Equipment and other items she required to commence work.
“Shenai was so grateful that she was successful in securing the role. She was excited to be doing something she was passionate about, a job that provided flexibility around being a parent and suited her work life balance,” said Jess.
“I am so grateful to Jess and atWork Australia for helping me get this job. It’s perfect for me and exactly what I was looking for,” said Shenai.
