Workforce Australia client, Shaun, lives with anxiety. With limited work experience, he also had a low level of self-confidence in his abilities.
Shaun met Job Coach, Natalie, at the atWork Australia Davoren Park office in South Australia.
Natalie connected Shaun to atWork Australia’s Wellness Services for additional support with his confidence, as this was a major barrier to supporting him to find employment.
“We would recommend jobs to Shaun that we believed he was suitable for,” said Natalie.
“He would often turn them down due to his confidence. Believing he would not be able to successfully do the job well.”
While he was working with the Wellness Team, Natalie helped Shaun to upskill by obtaining his White Card, Responsible Service of Alcohol, First Aid and a Police Clearence. He then enrolled in a Certificate III in Business.
Having these new skills behind him lifted Shaun’s confidence, and they would assist him to find employment when the time was right.
Natalie and Shaun worked together to update his resume with these new skills and achievements. Encouragement and motivation was provided by the atWork Australia team. Shaun was ready to apply for a role.
The role was with a local recycling centre. Shaun felt he was able to do the job and it was within walking distance of Shaun’s home. Another benefit to Shaun, as he did not have a car or licence.
“I encouraged Shaun that he could do this job and shared all the positives that could come out of applying for it,” said Natalie.
“While he was apprehensive at first, he is now really enjoying the role.”
Shaun is still working in his new role and continues to finish his Certificate III in Business as he looks forward to future opportunities.
