Workforce Australia client, Selma, first connected with the atWork Australia team in Warrawong, NSW, in July 2022.
Selma had a clear goal of what she wanted to achieve. She had previous work experience as a Support Coordinator and Support Worker, and she was hoping to secure a similar role in this field.
Over the next few months, with the support of her Job Coach, Anita, Selma secured two separate opportunities as a Support Worker. Unfortunately, it turned out these positions were not the right fit for her, and she decided to look for alternative employment.
For Selma, English is her second language, and this was proving to make her job hunt more challenging. Anita continued to work closely with Selma, providing motivation and encouraging her to keep putting herself forward and the right opportunity will arise.
Anita encouraged Selma to participate in atWork Australia’s Pre-Employment Training. This would help develop her fundamental skills to support her on her journey towards employment.
Together they worked on updating and tailoring Selma’s resume and cover letter for each application they submitted, ensuring they were hitting the requirements the employer was looking for.
Due to their consistent effort, Selma began securing interviews. Although she was not successful straight away, after every interview Anita and Selma would conduct a debrief to analyse how the interview went and identify opportunities to improve.
Selma was determined to return to work, and she was soon rewarded for her efforts. She was over the moon to receive the good news that she had secured a position as a Mentor Worker.
Through out Selma’s journey with atWork Australia she has gained more than just employment. She now has the confidence to take on bigger challenges and set personal goals beyond what she ever expected.
