Disability Employment Services client, Sarah, lives with anxiety. Due to her anxiety she preferred to avoid change.
However, after six years working as an Aged and Disability Support care worker, she was burnt out and ready for a change.
She started working with Job Coach Brad at the Shepparton office, looking for support and assistance to find a new career that suited her.
Being unsure of what to do in her career next, Brad and Sarah worked together to look at a different industry. Sarah participated and completed the Positivum program to support her mindset and wellbeing while Brad networked with other agencies including Jobs Victoria.
During this networking, a Jobs Victoria advocate made Brad and Sarah aware of an adult traineeship program that was being run through the National Electrical and Communications Association (NECA) to work in the government sector.
Sarah gained the traineeship with the Department of Justice and Community Safety.
Sarah has a mentor with NECA now for extra support, along with continued support from atWork Australia.
Sarah said Brad was very accommodating and supportive, and very proactive of helping her move into a new line of employment.
“The position has improved my confidence and helped with my anxiety, and I’m excited to see where it takes me, and what my future holds. I am really happy with the support from Brad and atWork Australia,” said Sarah.
Sarah appreciated exploring different options all the way through to make sure the team was finding the right job opportunity for her.
“Sarah has been a pleasure to work with and I am very happy to watch her excel and shine in her new career,” said Brad.
“It’s exciting to see how happy Sarah is, and for her to now work in a friendly environment of team members who are very supportive of her.”
