When Sam came to atWork Australia’s Wonthaggi office to get support from the Disability Employment Service team, he had a positive attitude and he was eager to find employment. Due to Sam’s barriers, which include severe anxiety, learning difficulties and limited training opportunities, it was important for Sam to find an inclusive employer who could provide him with the support he required.
When Sam met his Job Coach, Paul, they quickly developed a strong relationship and in a matter of weeks, Paul was able to support Sam to secure employment. Now Sam is in employment, he is being supported by his In-Work Support Coach, Ben. Due to Sam’s health barriers, some environments can exacerbate his anxiety, which then impacts his ability to perform his role and he can eastly become overwhelmed and uncomfortable in that environment. Ben regularly checked in with Sam to see how he was coping at work, they decided that this workplace was having a negative impact on Sam and it was time to look for alternative employment.
Despite the slight setback, Sam was still eager to find new employment, he would come into the office to meet with his In-Work Support Coach, Ben, to discuss employment opportunities. Sam attended several interviews within the first week. Sam has an exceptional work ethic, which was noticed during his interviews. Sam quickly secured a new position as a Cleaner at Bunnings; he is loving his new job and is thriving in an inclusive workplace. Sam is employed by City Holding, but his colleagues at Bunnings make him feel included and part of the team. Sam’s In-Work Support Coach, Ben, said, “Sam has always had a positive attitude and was willing to explore all opportunities we presented to him. I am so glad he is happy in his new job.”
Sam has been very grateful for the support he has received from atWork Australia. Sam said, “atWork Australia is the best Disability Employment Service provider in town. Since moving to Wonthaggi over a year ago, atWork Australia helped me gain two jobs in a matter of weeks. Paul and Ben are the friendliest Job Coaches you will ever meet.”
Sam is loving his new role and is now looking into how he can give back to his community. Sam is hoping to participate in charity work and become more involved with his local community.
“I highly recommend popping down to see the team. They will get you on the path you want with the friendliest support in town,” said Sam.
