Workforce Australia client, Samantha is a 34-year-old Indigenous single mother of three. She has spent the last ten years out of the workforce, and as a result, her confidence, and motivation to return was low.
To prepare for employment, Samantha connected with the atWork Australia team in Penrith, NSW.
“Samantha’s short-term goal is to regain employment and provide financial stability for her three children. She aims to find part-time work in retail, drawing on her previous experience within various retail stores,” said her Job Coach, Adrian.
After getting to know Samantha, Adrian constructed a job plan drawing on her interests, goals, previous work experience and skills. Tailoring the job plan to Samantha and her needs, ensures her employment journey is sustainable.
As a first step, Adrian enrolled Samantha into the Jobs for the Mob program with facilitator, Shameer. “The tailored workshop provided her with crucial skills in resume writing, job search strategies, and interview techniques, while also addressing the unique challenges faced by Indigenous people looking for work,” said Shameer.
This program proved to be a massive leap for Samantha, and her confidence. With Shameer, and Adrian describing her progress as impressive. This confidence lead Samantha into enrolling into another program, MoneyMinded to assist with her confidence with money, and managing finances.
Her new-found confidence was not only recognised by the atWork Australia team, but her niece too! Samantha states her improved attitude, and skills have inspired her niece. They are now working together to develop soft skills, so that her niece can pursue a career in the beauty industry.
“Samantha also hopes to inspire her children by showing them the importance of perseverance and self-confidence, ultimately leading to a brighter future for her Mob,” said Shameer.
