20-year-old Sabrina reached out to the atWork Australia office in Invermay, TAS, as a Workforce Australia client, looking to upskill and prepare for the workforce.
Sabrina nervously entered the office, with minimal confidence in her abilities because she didn’t have an employment history. Within her initial consultation, Job Coach, Anna, got to know Sabrina; her stories, her values and her skills. All these elements would later construct the basis of her job plan.
One key element of this job plan was getting her licence as that was one of Sabrina’s goals.
Anna and Sabrina discussed a variety of different industries that would suit Sabrina and her skills. Anna suggested her entering Community Services. After discussing this a little more and what the industry entails, Sabrina was interested.
After this conversation, Anna researched certificates and courses that are valuable within the industry to enroll Sabrina within to ensure that she had the prerequisites needed to enter.
Based on her research, Sabrina was later enrolled within a Certificate III in Community Services. To assist in her studies, Anna was also able to further financially support Sabrina by purchasing a laptop.
Whilst competing this program, Anna and Sabrina worked on Sabrina’s confidence towards employment and the valuable skills that she brings. At this same time, she was also working on upskilling to obtain her driver’s licence.
After sitting her test in May, Sabrina passed on the first attempt. She could not wait to share the good news with Anna and called her immediately after finding out.
Sabrina has showed great skills and courage on her journey to employment, and it is only just the beginning.
Anna and the atWork Australia team in Invermay look forward to assisting her in employment in the future.
