From Invermay, Tasmania, Workforce Australia client, Robyn, had been out of paid employment for 35 years due to family commitments.
Robyn had been on a carer’s payment and was referred to atWork Australia for support to get back into the workforce.
The 56-year-old had been unemployed for a long time, thus lacked the motivation to look for work. She also had limited skills and education, lowering her confidence.
Robyn was connected with local Job Coach, Nicole, and the pair started to work together on a strategy to get Robyn job ready.
Nicole enrolled Robyn into a couple of internally run programs to introduce Robyn to some new people and help her prepare for work.
These included Money Minded, a course designed to help clients make informed decisions and manage money to reduce financial stressors and barriers to employment, as well as a retail skills course facilitated by Work and Training in the Invermay office.
Prior to participating in these courses, Robyn was not interested in looking for, or gaining, employment. However, the courses sparked Robyn’s interest and after completing them, Robyn became very motivated to gain employment and her confidence increased.
As a result, Robyn and Nicole worked together to create Robyn a resume, and within a short amount of time, Robyn landed a job interview through a friend.
Nicole was able to support Robyn financially by purchasing some interview clothes; making Robyn feel her best.
Nicole encouraged Robyn and as a result of Robyn’s confidence, she got the job!
Through the skills she learnt, the confidence she gained, and her experience as a carer, Robyn is now working part-time as a Housekeeper for the local Best Western Plus.
