Robin stands with a big smile on her face. Quote reads. Robin embodies the importance of perseverance, serving as a positive role model for her family as they witness her dedication and resilience in pursuing her dreams

Robin, mother to ten children, connected with atWork Australia’s Workforce Australia team looking for full time work to support her family.

Her previous employer had cut back on her hours, which had affected her confidence. Determined to provide for her family, Robin met Indigenous Connections Mentor, Kathleen, at the atWork Australia Mount Druitt office.

The team worked with Robin to deliver tailored support to help her achieve her short-term goal of securing employment and her long-term goal of financial stability.

As part of this plan she was connected to Pre-Employment Facilitator, Shameer, to engage with Indigenous specific programs to support her on her journey to employment.

Robin participated in yarning circle Mob Care and then enrolled in the Jobs for the Mob program.

“Robin aims to demonstrate resilience and dedication to her children, particularly her youngest son, who has autism and has taught her patience and persistence,” said Shameer.

“The tailored support for Robin was crucial due to her extensive responsibilities as a mother and her previous experiences of low motivation. The training provided was designed to fit her schedule (school hours), allowing her to balance family commitments while building her skills.”

“Connecting her with culturally relevant job opportunities (an Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander organisation in Whalan) also ensured she felt a sense of belonging and purpose, making the support especially meaningful.”

During the programs, Robin learned about tailoring a resume, interview coaching and was supported to apply for roles.

She also connected with others who shared a similar experience to her, fostering a sense of community and a group to offer her additional encouragement.

Kathleen connected Robin to the organisation in Wallan for an interview where Robin felt confident in herself and motivated to interview for more roles.

It wasn’t long before she landed full-time work at a logistics company, which was her goal.

“Robin is now poised to achieve her employment goals. She embodies the importance of perseverance, serving as a positive role model for her family as they witness her dedication and resilience in pursuing her dreams,” said Shameer, pre-employment facilitator.
