For the first time in 12 years Robert, from Salisbury, SA has found an ideal role as a delivery driver and storeman.
Robert approached the atWork Australia office in Salisbury due to having low confidence and mental health conditions, after experiencing long term unemployment.
Robert felt like his skills were outdated and was worried employers might be looking for someone younger.
After registering for support, Robert was assigned Disability Employment Services Job Coach Kara. Kara and Robert worked together and identified training options to increase Robert’s skills, increase Robert’s self-belief, and to find Robert meaningful work.
Having last worked in 2007, Robert was enrolled in the atWork Australia Jobs Now Program. This program involved group sessions with other job seekers on topics all tailored to support Robert in securing sustainable employment. During these sessions, Robert was assisted in writing cover letters and resumes. The sessions also covered interview skills, job searching and how to market yourself to potential employers. These sessions helped to improve Robert’s confidence.
Upon completion of the Jobs Now Program, Robert began applying for roles that suited his skills and interests. After applying at a local warehouse, Robert received the good news that he had secured the role.
Robert was initially worried about beginning work after a long-term period of unemployment. However, once Robert began work he felt more confident and excited about the opportunity. Robert’s new-found purpose at work has also encouraged him to improve his life in other ways he never thought possible, including losing 6 kilos since starting work. “Never say never, anything is possible”, said Robert.
Robert found the atWork Australia team very helpful, stating that any time he felt like there was an issue, he knew he could contact the team, and someone would support and assist him.
