Since the age of 13, Indigenous Workforce Australia client, Rebecca (Bec), has found herself in and out of correctional centres and facilities. Now, aged 36, she was looking to make some bold moves in her life and find meaningful employment.
But, because of her past, this was not going to be easy, so she enrolled for assistance from the atWork Australia team in St Marys, NSW.
Bec was initially apprehensive and nervous at the time of commencement, as she had transferred to atWork Australia from another provider.
From her initial appointment, Bec’s impression of atWork Australia grew fonder and fonder, as her Job Coach’s, Kym and Josefa, connected and worked with not only her, but also her parole officer, on what was possible with her conditions.
Based on these conditions, a plan was created to upskill and gain experience within hospitality, which was highlighted as a keen interest for her. She completed courses in; table service, barista, and OH&S.
Whilst completing these courses, Bec was also enrolled into a volunteering position to get back into the community. Kym and Josefa were able to assist Bec with the required PPE needed prior to commencing this position.
Since beginning this position, Bec has also secured a role as a data collector within the local community. She began this role in November 2023 and loves it.
“Bec has maintained engagement with site, is undertaking all interventions to improve herself, and speaks openly of her desire to improve herself. We are so proud of her growth.” – Kym, atWork Australia Job Coach.
