Workforce Australia client, Stephanie, had been unemployed since 2017 and as a result of the lengthy gap in her employment, had lost motivation.
Stephanie had doubt in her abilities, and she found that her age was a barrier to securing employment. She had lost hope after countless attempts to secure a new job.
Stephanie had unstable housing and was experiencing financial stress; she was eager to get support to help find a job.
She was connected with atWork Australia, Wollongong, NSW, and was introduced to her Job Coach, Mikaela. The pair worked together along the journey; Mikaela providing Stephanie with advice and support to help her shift her mindset, build motivation and practice self-belief. She also advocated on her behalf to local employers when the time came.
Stephanie participated in Jobs at Work; a workshop program to help with strategies for looking for work and becoming job-ready.
Stephanie was interested in working in hospitality and so, Stephanie and Mikaela worked together to find a restaurant where Stephanie could thrive.
When Stephanie secured employment at The Lagoon Restaurant as a full-time employee, she was thrilled.
She described her feeling as relief. The hard work and encouragement had all paid off. Stephanie says, “I am now able to work to a budget with a clear goal of clearing my financial debt. I have a new purpose and direction; a reason to get out of bed every day.”
Mikaela says, “I am so excited to see Stephanie successful in her journey to employment. I am excited to see what the future holds for her.”
“The Wollongong team are all genuine people, and the care is always there.” – Stephanie
