Raylene is a full-time parent to a teenage boy, and she lives with low iron. She wanted to return to work but with her parental responsibilities paired with low iron that made her tire easily, Raylene couldn’t find suitable work. Positive thinking was her first step towards sustainable employment.
She had a strong background in administration, but as she would tire easily, she was unable to spend all day on her feet. Raylene was anxious about returning to work and worried she wouldn’t find something to work within her barriers.
Raylene met with Job Coach, Kyla, from atWork Australia in Deception Bay, Queensland. The pair met fortnightly to work through Raylene’s anxiety, practice interview skills and update her resume.
“I helped Raylene identify opportunities that might work for her situation. Often clients will focus on what they are unable to do when there are many alternative opportunities out there.
“Together, we worked on her resume, interview skills, and looked at options to support her into employment,” said Kyla.
“She was feeling discouraged as she was skilled but was unable to find employment.”
Raylene obtained a call centre role where she was able to work from home so she could still be available for her son. atWork Australia also provided Raylene with equipment to support her including a sit/stand desk so she could work and manage her health condition.
“Raylene is so excited to be back at work. She is doing amazing in her new role. She started with a six-month contract and has now been offered another contract,” said Kyla.
“Helping Raylene thinking positively was the key to her being able to see the available opportunities.” – Kyla, Job Coach, QLD
