22-year-old, Disability Employment Services client, Phillip, from Caroline Springs in Victoria, had limited work experience.
He shared with his Job Coach that his employment goals were to become part of a team. Philip was very shy and reserved. He lives with Autism, and he originally wanted to work in a library, but he was open to other opportunities.
“Phillip comes across shy and reserved but once you get him talking, he is a real joy,” said Employer Engagement Consultant, Kylie.
Kylie also coordinates atWork Australia’s volunteering program through our partnership with Melbourne United Basketball Association.
The program allows atWork Australia clients to participate in the home game activities, such as handing our merchandise in a capacity that works best for them.
For Phillip, he enjoys activities that are repetitive. Kylie had the perfect opportunity for Phillip to build his confidence but also feels comfortable in doing an activity suited to him.
“Phillip enjoys activities that are repetitive,” said Kylie.
“We were able to set him up to hand out the clappers in the same spot all the time. This means he feels comfortable to keep coming back and has built confidence and resilience while participating.”
This has also shown that when provided with the right opportunity, Phillip is a very reliable worker.
The program helped to build Philips confidence to take on paid employment doing data entry for a real estate agency.
Every year, atWork Australia help thousands of clients like Phillip expand their skills and qualifications to help them gain the right job with the right employer. Call us today on 1300 080 856 or enquire online to find out how we can help you meet your career goals.
