Tailored support leads Disability Employment Services client, Peter, in a more confident direction on his journey to employment.
64-year-old, Peter, entered the Bankstown atWork Australia office with a long history of working in sport. He had a range of qualifications, and experience as a football coach and referee.
“He had a long career working in NSW education system assisting schools with sport,” said his Job Coach, Nabeel.
When Peter first met with his Job Coach, Nabeel, he expressed his mental health concerns. He mentioned he was overwhelmed with feelings of anxiety and stress.
With re-entering the workforce being Peter’s long-term goal, his short-term goals including focusing on his health, wellbeing and finding secure housing. As a first step on his journey, he was referred to atWork Australia’s in-house Wellness Services, a complimentary program, aimed at identifying and addressing barriers to employment.
“When I met with Peter, he mentioned he was overwhelmed with the feeling of anxiety and stress. He felt as though he was stuck and hopeless because of his insecure housing situation,” said an atWork Australia team member.
“Peter had difficulty coping with life changes, and health issues.”
In addition to these concerns, he had recently experienced a sudden death of a close friend.
“With all of this information in mind, I was able to tailor our services, so Peter was receiving the support he needed to thrive on his journey,” said an atWork Australia team member.
Whilst attending his wellness appointments, he continued to work with Nabeel on his employment goals. This included attending a JobsNow session, as well as receiving new clothing for interviews.
Remarkable progress has been made on his journey so far, and this is only just the beginning. We look forward to seeing where his future takes him.
