Peter had worked in the same career, in timber production, for more than 20 years.
However, when the COVID-19 pandemic hit, he, like many others, found himself suddenly out of work.
Very quickly he lost the drive to search for new work, believing his age and limited skills with technology were hindering his success.
Peter came to atWork Australia as a Workforce Australia client at the Moolap office in Victoria.
The team in Moolap referred Peter to our internal course focused on Warehousing. It provided him with the opportunity to gain skills in a new industry while participating in Wellness activities to work on his mindset.
“Peter was assisted every step of the way to stay motivated and focused,” said Preet, Peter’s pre-employment activity facilitator.
“As part of the course, I worked with Peter one-on-one to create a new resume and supported him to apply for jobs online.”
“This support helped Peter become more confident using technology to search and apply for work.”
Peter said he credits the atWork Australia internal programs for providing him with the attitude readjustment he had been seeking.
“Participating in the program has been extremely fulfilling and engaging. The team are motivated educators with a sincere approach. I have really benefited from this experience,” said Peter.
Peter no longer considers his age to be a barrier to finding meaningful and sustainable work.
Peter is waiting to undergo a medical procedure but then he is looking forward to the new opportunities which await him. He is looking forward to reentering the workforce.
“We look forward to continuing to support Peter while he finds a role that is the right fit for him,” said Preet.
