Client Michelle stands with her arm around Viviana. She says: "The support Viviana gives is wonderful and genuine. She makes me feel very supported and not alone"

Viviana has been a Job Coach in the Hurstville, NSW, office for some time. Her experience has shown her that all clients have unique needs, and a tailored approach works best.

So, when Indigenous Workforce Australia client, Michelle, stared working with Viviana, she took the time to get to know her goals, her experience, and worked with her to develop a tailored plan.

Viviana learnt that Michelle had high levels of fatigue impacting her ability to work full-time. She had low self-confidence, and although she had a goal of working in support work, she wasn’t sure how to get there.

First, they looked at Michelle’s resume, updating it to highlight her skills that are related to support work, and organised a police check so she was ready if any suitable jobs became available.

She was then referred into the atWork Australia Jobs Now program to build her confidence. During the program she was assisted with job applications and practiced interview skills through mock interviews.

They went through job advertisements together and talked about Michelle’s skills. Michelle was supported with her applications to make sure those skills shone through.

“Viviana is very knowledgeable. She explains things to me in a caring manner,” said Michelle.

This support helped Michelle’s confidence to shine through and she landed a role as a support worker.

Viviana supported Michelle to purchase work-related clothing and with transport for her first few weeks.

However, after starting in this new role, Michelle began to experience depression.

To support her, Viviana referred Michelle to our in-house Wellness Services.

“We swiftly organised for Michelle to see our team of psychologists for support,” said Viviana.

“Having an in-house team means we can access support for our clients when they need it most.”

With the full support of the atWork Australia team behind her, Michelle continued in her position as a support worker.

As life changes, Michelle advised Viviana that she was going to be moving and thanked her for her assistance in helping her reach her employment goals.

The team again sprang into action and referred Michelle to our in-house program MoneyMinded. A financial literacy program to support clients learn about budgeting and finances.

The team wanted to ensure that Michelle had all the tools she needed to support her health, wellness and employment goals as she begins to look for new employment, in her new hometown.
