At sixty years of age and despite facing many challenges along the way, Kaye never stopped pursuing her dream to be self-employed and has recently launched her business, Be-Okay Counselling.
For the past ten years, Kaye has been working on building her own business. To achieve her goal, Kaye needed to obtain specific qualifications, she started by undertaking a Bachelor of Psychology and then slightly shifted direction to a Diploma of Counselling. However, during this period while Kaye was preparing to launch her own business, she unfortunately had a tragic life changing experience, which, in-turn, impacted on her own health and wellbeing. Despite the challenges Kaye was facing, she was still determined to achieve her goals. Although, she now realised she would benefit from some additional support and enthusiastically embraced the assistance from atWork Australia’s Disability Employment Services team in Warragul, Victoria.
When Kaye first met her Job Coach, Thomas, she shared her dreams and aspirations to be self-employed, and explained her goals had been delayed due to her health and other events in her life. Thomas encouraged Kaye to continue pursuing her dream and advised that atWork Australia was here to support her on the journey.
Thomas was able to support Kaye as she prepared to launch her business. Assisting with reviewing legal business requirements, researching web developers, brainstorming ideas for advertising and helping design signage. Additionally, as launching a new business is extremely difficult, Thomas was there to provide continuous encouragement, emotional support, and reassured Kaye that her hard work would pay off.
Kaye continues to progress towards achieving her goals, she was so proud to officially launch her business, Be-Okay Counselling and begin providing support to others. Kaye’s Job Coach, Thomas, said, “I have enjoyed watching Kaye progress, her confidence and her self-belief in her ability to achieve her goals continues to grow.”
Kaye has shown her appreciation and gratitude for the support from atWork Australia. Kaye said, “I appreciate the genuine support and understanding from my Job Coach, Thomas. One of the benefits of being self-employed is that I am able to fit my own criteria, not someone else’s criteria, for a position.”
Kaye’s story is a good reminder to never give up on your goals and highlights how atWork Australia can tailor their services to support clients on their individual journey.
“Simply think about what you enjoy,” said Kaye.
