Keeping an open mind and persevering against adversity, Sandy has found a brand-new confidence after 16 years of unemployment.
Caboolture based Sandy is a mum of two who had recently become a single parent. With one of her children living with a mental health condition and requiring a high level of care, Sandy started to experience her own mental health issues.
Along with other family problems, Sandy had an extreme fear of driving, particularly on highways, plus she had been homeless several times.
Determined to make a change in her life, Sandy approached the local atWork Australia office, and was introduced to Job Coach, Danielle.
Danielle could easily sense Sandy’s lack of self-esteem and confidence. However, through their many meetings together, she could also see Sandy was committed to self-improvement.
Together they agreed Sandy would make a fantastic candidate for the Community Services sector and enrolled her in a Certificate III in Community Services course through education facility, Alffie.
“Sandy has been so dedicated to completing her course, coming into the office up to four days per week so she can focus on her tasks and get assistance when she needs it, all while facing personal adversity” says Danielle.
A job opportunity arose in sales and Danielle recommended that Sandy apply for the role, given her confidence was growing by the day. This would allow her to finish her course and still earn money.
With support from Danielle, Sandy was now self-assured enough to drive herself to the interview, where she unknowingly had a conversation with the owner while waiting outside for her interview.
Sandy was promptly offered the role, and incredibly thankful to atWork Australia.
“I couldn’t be happier, this will change mine and my daughter’s lives for the better,” Sandy says.
