Disability Employment Services client, Penny (64), finds the support she needs to kickstart a new career as a Support Worker.
With a 20+ year history in foster care, one thing was for sure, Penny loved assisting people. But a recent bad experience within the industry led her to think she needed a leap in an alternate direction.
For assistance on this new journey, she was partnered with Job Coach, Ella, and Employer Engagement Consultant, Shannon, from the atWork Australia office in Kings Meadows, Tasmania.
In their initial appointment together, the trio worked through Penny’s previous work experience, her skills, and what she was looking for with all future job opportunities. They also discussed her financial barriers, leading to insecure housing and the support available to her.
In her following appointments, Penny worked with the team on boosting her confidence both with her capabilities, as well as her ability to navigate computer systems so she could attend online interviews.
Once Penny was ready, she worked with the team to create the perfect resume to impress potential employers. And it just did that, she was later invited into several interviews with employers.
After a successful interview with a local employer, Penny was offered the full-time position as a Support Worker.
In this next phase of her employment journey, Shannon financially assisted Penny in obtaining her First Aid certification and her Police Check to start her new position.
The support provided by atWork Australia has been invaluable to Penny. She states,
“I have loved working with the staff at atWork Australia. they are friendly approachable, and their help has been invaluable.”
