After spending multiple stints in prison, losing contact with his three children, and being unemployed for the last eight years, Paul decided it was time to make some serious changes in his life.
To support his reintegration back into the community, he connected with atWork Australia’s Workforce Australia team in Nuriootpa, South Australia.
Paul was being supported by Job Coach, Rebecca. Paul was upfront with Rebecca and openly spoke about his situation. He shared that in the short-term he would like to gain his forklift ticket and find part-time work to support himself whilst he began studying.
Rebecca was excited that Paul had a plan. However, given his past, he has some personal barriers to work through before he would be in a strong position to pursue his goals.
As a starting point, Rebecca referred Paul to atWork Australia’s Wellness Services, where he received professional support from Wellness Advisor, Sharron.
Paul is now looking towards the future and is eager to start studying at TAFE. He has recently passed his language, literacy and numeracy test, which is required to enter TAFE.
With the support of Job Coach, Rebecca, Paul has now enrolled into TAFE and will begin studying CAD Design Engineering and Technology in January.
In preparation to start his course, atWork Australia provided funding for Paul to purchase a computer and programs he required to commence his course.
Paul continues to take positives steps as he works towards returning to the workplace. He has attended information sessions to learn about local opportunities, he is booked into complete his forklift ticket and is feeling more confident about his future.
The most positive outcome since Paul connected with atWork Australia is that he has been able to reconnect with his children and is becoming more involved in their lives.
“We are so happy to see Paul doing well. He has got his life back on track, he has new goals and family connections,” said Job Coach, Rebecca.
“I am very pleased to be able to move forward and have goals to work towards,” said Paul.
